親子禪修班輔導老師心得
蓮花乃清淨的象徵,其出污泥而不染,亭亭淨植,香遠益清。五光十色的萬丈紅塵宛如一個大染缸,到處飄蕩著暴力、毒品濫用和各種無止盡誘惑的垢染。小孩生長於這樣的社會環境下,我們應當如何幫助他們在成長過程中,能夠如蓮花般潔身自愛,不會同流合污﹖答案就是佛法,也就是要在他們猶稚嫩清純的心地,早日埋下菩提種苗。 太谷精舍親子禪修班提供了一個適當的環境和機會,讓孩子透過誦經和靜坐,體驗當下如何澄心靜慮,自我返照﹔並且藉由佛法的薰習,認識自己的心性,以期能夠得到真實的智慧。大多數來這裡上課的年輕孩子們,早已熟習外在世界的聲色刺激﹔他們的身心浮躁好動,難以沉靜下來坐著專心聽師父開示或作討論。當然這也給師父和輔導老師出了一道難題,就是如何為學生編排一個禪修教化與興趣兼具的課程。 為了適應現代小孩子的根器和個性,延續學員專心上課的學習熱忱,乃設計了佛法開示和相關活動的配合課程,如具有創意的遊戲活動、活潑有趣的討論,以及與佛法意涵有關聯的藝術活動等。為了有效達到這樣的目標,每個人在參與活動策劃時,無不以精進不懈心、耐心和正念,齊心協力共同完成。而在這樣的互動學習過程中,學生和輔導老師彼此教學相長,一起體驗了成長。 從學生的身上,我們很欣喜地見到孩子的心如海綿一般,能夠無止盡地汲取新知的潛質。這就是為什麼我們要在他們的生命成長階段,盡早教導他們正確知見的重要性。雖然有些學生只來上過幾次課,就從此不再出現過﹔有些學生則堅持到底上完一期課,並且繼續回來上下一期的課程。無論是那一種情況,已經在每個人的心田撒下了菩提種子。 每當我看到有一些學生靜坐時能夠身體寂然不動地端坐良久,或聆聽師父開示時的專注神情,或熱切地投入討論,以及協助同學一起把作業完成,在這些畫面匆匆閃過腦際的瞬間,我就知道,菩提種子已然在他們心中悄悄發芽,終有一天必將開花結果,一片燦然。祈願所有的孩子都能一塵不染心、身心清淨地成長,並且慈眼看待所有一切眾生。 (親子禪修班輔導老師傳緣英文撰稿﹐太谷精舍文教組編譯) A reflection from a volunteer in the AWESOME Youth Class at Zen Center of Sunnyvale The lotus flower is a symbol of purity for it springs out of muddy water in the pond without carrying a trace of dirt. If we imagine the world as a gigantic pond, we can see its murky water saturated with violence, drugs abuse and incessant temptations from the entertainment and marketing enterprises. This is the kind of societal environment our children are born into. How can we help them grow up with a pure mind like a lotus flower? The answer is the Buddhist way, which is to plant a Bodhi seed in each child while the soil of their mind is still fresh and soft to allow growth. The AWESOME Youth Class at the Zen Center of Sunnyvale provides an environment and opportunity for children to experience moments of calmness through chanting and meditation; to realize their Buddha nature and to attain true wisdom through learning the Buddha’s teachings. It is true that most of the young children who come to class have already got used to worldly stimulations. Their mind and bodies are restless and it is hard for them to sit still and focus on lectures and discussions. This poses a challenge to the Dharma masters and the volunteers who have to come up with a curriculum which is both enlightening and interesting to the students. In this case, the middle way approach is todeliver Buddha’s teachings with activities that are accommodating to the students’ limited attention span. Innovative games, new form of discussion and art activities are designed to correspond to the Buddha’s teachings. To rise up to the occasion, everyone involved in the program has to exercise utmost diligence, tolerance and mindfulness. This results in both the students and volunteers going through a learning process together. It is amazing to see the potential in students whose mind is like a sponge that is able to absorb much information. This is why it is so important to teach them the right things as early in their lives as possible. Some students come for a couple of classes and never show up again; some students leave and come back the next semester, but no matter what the situation is, as long as they come for a class or two, the seeds have already been sown. When I see students sitting longer without moving during meditation, enthusiastically engaging in discussion, paying attention to the Dharma master’s talk, or helping fellow students to complete an assignment, I know the Bodhi seeds in their minds are growing and lovely lotus flowers will blossom sooner or later. May all children grow up having a pure mind and being compassionate to all sentient beings.
親子禪修班家長 / 禪修班學員 感言 (A) 家長陳麗玲 -- 奇妙的佛緣 這是一個多麼奇妙的緣呀!我自小生長在山明水秀的台灣埔里。地靈人傑的埔里山區,在近二十年當中,吸引了不少寺廟道場前來開山,中台禪寺也是其中之一。在這些廟宇當中,中台禪寺是最輝煌,也是最特殊的一間禪寺。在祂雄偉壯觀的建築之中,蘊藏著無盡無數佛法寶藏。只要一進入禪寺便讓人肅然起敬。而在禪寺前面的前山花園種植了許多各國的奇花寶樹,只要延著山徑往上走,繞山一圈便使人覺得心曠神怡,於是這個花園便成了我們最佳去處。常在黃昏時,我牽著父母及小孩們的手前來散步玩耍。可是,卻怎麼也沒有想到要真正的去接近那近在眼前的佛法。 直到今年初,由中文報紙上得知中台的分部太谷精舍開設了親子班,看到這一消息時,不禁讓我回想起以前在埔里中台花園玩耍的甜蜜回憶。於是我帶著孩子來到了親子班,在每個星期六的課程,從唱誦心經,禪修的練習,小和尚短片到佛教故事,在在處處都可見到精舍的法師及TA們的用心。讓這群在這兒成長的小孩們能夠學習到許多生命的真正價值,進而能應用在實際的生活當中,而讓生活中少些紛爭,多些和平。甚且精舍也安排參訪,我們參加了佛門寺的參訪。在這兒,孩子們學習到了要愛惜食物,也學習到了用餐時的禮儀。 除了孩子們的課程外,每次親子班的後半段是法師們對家長的慈悲開示。每次的開示都讓我覺得如沐春風般。師父諄諄的教導我們要在生活中去實踐佛法,要做孩子們的模範。在行為,思考及語言上要謹言慎行,因為聰明的孩子們隨處學習我們的行為。而且師父並用科學的數據來告訴我們許多佛法的精髓。在每個星期六的課程結束後,我和孩子們戴著滿滿的歡樂回家。在車上,我們快樂地唱著心經,高興地討論小和尚的故事。對我們家而言,上親子班不只是上課而已,而是一種我和孩子們之間最佳的心靈溝通。 這真的是很奇妙的一個緣!在我生活了三十多年的埔里,沒能來得及開始的佛緣,在這兒美國的太谷精舍開啟了我和孩子們的佛緣。謝謝法師及TA們精心設計這麼一個課程,讓我們有機會來學習佛法,並希望親子班能長長久久的持續,讓佛法能深植在我們的心中,進而開展出朵朵美麗的蓮花。 (B) 家長羅玉純 (Grace Lo) 每次帶小孩來上禪修班,心中每每充滿感動。佛陀無上的智慧與慈悲經由課堂深入淺出的引導,深覺這些小孩實在太有褔報了。小小年紀就能如此接觸佛法,埋下善根。法師們和TA們實在功德無量。身為家長的我,在此付上十二萬分的感謝。 雖說這課程是為小朋友設計,但陪小孩來上課的我,也穫益良多。每次上完課,課程中的智慧法語常令我咀嚼再三,充滿法喜。阿彌陀佛!
